What a train the trainer course gives you
A train the trainer course gives you the skills and the recognised qualification to plan, deliver and assess training with confidence. The most widely respected route is the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, often shortened to AET, which is the modern replacement for the old PTLLS award. We deliver the Highfield Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF), a regulated qualification listed on the Ofqual register. Whether you want to train your own staff in house, move into a training role, or add teaching to your skill set, this is the qualification that proves you can do it properly.
Who is a train the trainer course for?
This course suits anyone who needs to teach or train others as part of their work. That includes subject experts moving into a training role, internal learning and development staff, assessors and supervisors who deliver in house training, and people starting out as freelance or employed trainers. You do not need any previous teaching experience to begin. By the end of the course you will understand how adults learn, how to plan and deliver a session that holds attention, and how to assess learning fairly, all of which you can apply the very next time you stand up in front of a group.
Accredited teaching qualifications, delivered to suit you
We deliver the Level 3 Award in Education and Training in a way that fits real working lives, whether that is at your premises for a group of staff or as a scheduled course for individuals. The qualification involves preparing and delivering a short microteach session, which gives you genuine practice with feedback rather than just theory. On successful completion you receive a nationally recognised Highfield certificate that lets you teach and train in many settings. If you are building a team of in house trainers, talk to us about training several people together, which is usually the most cost effective route.

FAQ
What is a train the trainer course?
A train the trainer course teaches you how to plan, deliver and assess training for other people. The best known qualification is the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET), a regulated teaching qualification. It is suitable for new and aspiring trainers, and no previous teaching experience is needed.
What does the course include?
Our Level 3 Award in Education and Training covers how adults learn, planning and preparing a session, delivery and communication skills, and how to assess learning fairly. You also prepare and deliver a short microteach session, which gives you real practice with feedback before you go on to train others.
Is the qualification accredited?
Yes. We deliver the Highfield Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF), a regulated qualification listed on the Ofqual register. It is nationally recognised and is the standard entry qualification for people who want to teach or train in the further education and skills sector.
Do I need a train the trainer qualification to deliver training?
It depends on the setting, but many employers and awarding bodies expect trainers to hold a recognised teaching qualification such as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training. Holding it gives you credibility and is often required before you can deliver accredited courses.
How long is the course?
The Level 3 Award is usually delivered over a small number of days, with some preparation for your microteach. We can run it as an intensive course or spread it out to suit working patterns. Tell us your situation and we will recommend the best format.
Can I deliver accredited courses after completing it?
The Level 3 Award qualifies you to teach and train, and it is the usual starting point. To deliver a specific accredited course you may also need approval from the relevant awarding body, which we can explain based on the courses you want to run.
Do I need previous teaching experience?
No. The Level 3 Award is designed for people with no previous teaching experience, as well as those who already train informally and want a recognised qualification. The course builds your skills from the ground up.
Do you deliver in person or online?
We deliver in a classroom setting, either at your premises for a group or as a scheduled course, because the microteach element works best in person. Talk to us about the option that suits your team.
How much does a train the trainer course cost?
Cost depends on whether you book an individual place or train a group of staff together. Group training at your premises is usually the most cost effective option. Tell us your numbers and we will send a clear quote.
